Prasanna Gudi is a young & versatile vocalist of the Kirana Gharana of Hindustani classical music. He is the son & disciple of Ganabhaskara Pandit Madhav Gudi, a maestro of Kirana Gharana and the foremost disciple of Bharata Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. Prasanna was born & brought up in a cultural family with a musical background spanning generations.
Born in the musical town of Dharwad in the year 1977 to Rama & Madhav Gudi, Prasanna began his music journey at the age of 12 years when he learnt Tabala under the tutelage of Pandit Rajgopal Kallurkar in Dharwad. This training led him to accompany other artists at local music programs of Dharwad. He was deeply influenced when he heard the rendition of Raga Puriya Kalyan and Raga Yaman of his father which encouraged him to become a vocalist. He started his music career under the guidance of his father, in the ‘Guru-Shishya’ tradition, and spent 15 years under his guidance of Khayal singing. He was also fortunate to have spent three years under the tutelage of the renowned senior musician Pandit Firoz Dastur.
Prasanna has captured the unique gayaki style of Kirana Gharana and developed a melodious and seasoned voice. The elaborate presentation of Laya, Taan-Palta, Khatka-Murkhi and Badhath of Raga is particularly prominent in his renditions. Apart from Hindustani classical khayal singing, he is also well know for Natya Sangeet, Dasara Pada and Bhava Geete.
Prasanna gave his first concert at the age of 22 years with Raga Yaman at Kala Bhavan, Dharwad. Since then Prasanna has presented his music at several places including Dharwad, Mangalore, Sirsi, Mysore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Nashik and Singapore.
