The government of Chile has appealed for calm after news of the arrest in London of former dictator General Augusto Pinochet sparked angry demonstrations.
For the third consecutive day, Pinochet supporters gathered outside the British and Spanish embassies on Monday to voice their anger at those countries' actions.
From his hospital bed in London, Pinochet has vowed to fight attempts to extradite him to Spain on allegations of murder, genocide and torture.
Pinochet also said in a statement - his first public comment since his arrest - that he was confident of winning the legal battle.
Chile's ambassador to London on Monday delivered a formal protest to the Foreign Office, saying Britain violated Pinochet's diplomatic immunity by placing him under arrest at a Spanish magistrate's request.
Spain, meanwhile, increased the charges to genocide - for which there is no diplomatic immunity.
Back in Santiago, the daughter of a Spanish U-N official killed during Pinochet's regime welcomed the arrest of the former dictator.
Carmen Soria said the latest developments offered hope that justice would be done - not just in Chile but across the world.
Sorias' father - Carmelo Soria - was working for a U-N think-tank in Santiago in 1976 when he was arrested.
Two days later, his body was found in a car at the bottom of a canal.

"The hope is that this - that Pinochet is in detention - is not only the hope I think of Chilean people but the hope of the whole world, like Nuremberg, Rwanda and Yugoslavia. At last I think that Spain has the obligation and a big opportunity to show to the world that crimes must not go unpunished - they cannot act with absolute impunity."

"This is the limit of rudeness and insolence. These British pirates that have raided everything they can all over the world and they think they can do what they want with us. We can beat them up anytime they want - what do those bastards think. Here I have two eggs to throw at those stupid Spanish. They are all stupid Marxists that follow the line of Marxism - that is why they want to get Pinochet because he destroyed them and gave the initiative to the world to destroy Marxism. We broke free of those scum bags, those shameless thieves - the only thing that they have done is exploit our people so they can live for free and not work at all"
