Last year was the UK's third warmest on record with a highest temperature of 37.8 Celsius recorded in July.
The Royal Meteorological Society says such highs could become the new normal, regardless of whether global temperatures are limited to a rise of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile another group of scientists says the Arctic is now the "ground zero" of climate change, and is calling for drastic action.
