SAN MATEO, Calif. — The Gonzaga women’s basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the West Coast Conference preseason polls.
The Zags got nine first-place votes in the poll, which is voted on by the 10 head coaches in the league. They are not allowed to vote for their own team. Portland received the other first-place vote.
Kayleigh and Kaylynne Truong were named to the Preseason All-WCC team, along with junior forward Yvonne Ejim.
Kayleigh was on the All-WCC First Team last season, leading the Zags with 11.2 points per game. She scored double-digit points in 19 of the 31 games she played last year. Her twin sister Kaylynne was named to the WCC tournament team and was the third-highest scorer on the team. Her biggest game came against USF last February, where she dropped 21 points.
Ejim comes into the 2022-23 season as the reigning WCC Sixth Woman of the Year. Also winning All-WCC second team honors, she played in 34 games, averaging 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds a game.
The Zags won the WCC tournament last season and won an NCAA tournament game before losing to Final Four team in Louisville.
Zag fans will get the chance to see them for the first time on October 15 for Numerica Fanfest.
