Written in 1942, this song is about one of the most well known attributes of President - then dictator - Getúlio Vargas, his smile. All presidents before him were part of the country landed aristocracy and had little to no contact with the people, while Vargas was a man of the common men and constantly smiled during his speeches, public appearances, his walks through the cities and newspaper interviews. This led Alcir Pires Vermelho to write this spontaneous song about that (that is why I didn't classify it as a New State song).
