Southern Thailand’s finest moments would almost certainly include life at a beach, a relaxed atmosphere accompanied by plates of super spicy food, and some bright sunshine for your mid-day hangout.
Welcome to Songkla Province, in the heart of Southern Thailand. Li and I have spent a week in Hat Yai (the big city of Songkla Province), but we want to explore some local life outside of town as well.
Thanks for hanging out with us today as we take a motorbike trip to Songkla Old Town, visiting this cool island on the way. The island of ‘Koh Yo’ (เกาะยอ) has its own history (even its own museum!) and, if possible, an even more relaxed lifestyle just waiting to welcome us all today.
Driving around the island, you’ll first come across a huge bridge (pretty stunning views of Lake Songkla), pass by all the fisherman and their various nets and catchement devices, and finally come around to a small row of homestays with beach bars beside.
Li noticed a very cool place in particular, and we thought it would be a great idea to visit ‘Chill Bar’ for a mid-way stop on our ride together today.
**It’s only about 30km (18 miles) from Hat Yai city to Songkla old town - on a small motorbike though, enjoying all the views and feelings of being in Southern Thailand - it took Li and I over 2 hours to make this trip today.
LOCATION:
“Chillbar kohyor”
(The restaurant is ‘Chill Bar,’ and the islands name is ‘Koh Yaw.’
