Worst natural disaster you have seen??
- Delhi is having earthquakes because it’s too close to the Himalayas.
- The national capital is situated in close proximity to the Himalayan ranges, roughly between 200-300 kilometres.
- The Himalayas came about because the India and Eurasia plates kept crashing into each other.
- This ongoing clash causes frequent shaking, making the area a hotspot for regular disasters like earthquakes and landslides.
- Shaking on the ground happens when the top layer of the Earth’s crust, made of tectonic plates, moves.
- More movement means a higher chance of an earthquake. The risk of earthquakes in the area comes from being close to where the Indian and Eurasian plates meet near the Himalayas.
- Delhi is also in an active seismic zone because of the faults around the Delhi NCR region.
- The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) categorizes Delhi in seismic zone IV.
