Soap making video will show you how I make liquid soap with high coconut oil content used for household cleaning purposes. This soap is made to be used for cleaning around the house and therefore a high coconut content. However, I did not want the end soap to become super watery, I added some rice bran oil to the formula to thicken the consistency and make the soap less drying for the skin.
Please always follow safety requirements while making soap! Sodium/Potassium hydroxide is caustic and can cause burns on skin or on mucous membranes!
The recipe I am using in this video:
80% Coconut oil
20% Rice bran oil
1% superfat
30% lye concentration
Remember to use potassium hydroxide or you will end up making solid soap bars!
Liquid soaps with high coconut oil will dissolve to become more watery compared with high olive oil content liquid soaps. However, the soap paste will be very hard and non sticky. The time to come to trace is also very very quick. This batched skipped the "Watery mashed potato" stage when cooking and turned straight to solid taffy stage. The bubbles are also more drying and have a high cleansing effect. Please check out my other video where I have made a different formula for washing the face, hands and body: [ Ссылка ]
Timeline for the video:
0:24 Making Potassium hydroxide lye solution
1:17 Pouring of the lye solution into crockpot
2:15 Thick applesauce
3:32 Thick custard with bubbles
4:15 Solid Taffy
5:05 Chunky/creamy Vaseline
7:08 Translucent Vaseline
7:17 pH test
7:46 Transfering soap into ziplock bags
8:51 Lather test
The batch made in the video is made with the total oil weight of 500g and would yield around 1063g of soap paste. Please run the formula through a lye calculator first and check the purity of your potassium hydroxide. The amount of potassium hydroxide varies with different purity and hence I did not include the amount I used. The lye calculator I like to use is [ Ссылка ]. The soap paste will then be further diluted for use. The dilution rates vary with person to person, the dilution I used for this soap paste was 1:1.5 (soap paste:distilled water).
