The Paint Mines are named for their colorful clays that were collected by American Indians to make paint. The paint mines have evidence of human life as far back as 9,000 years ago.
The Paint Mines Interpretive Park is located on the west edge of the Great Plains of Eastern Colorado, in El Paso County, is . It is unequivocally one of the most colorful parks found anywhere in the United States.
Oddly, most Colorado residents are either unaware of or have never visited the park.
