Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD is set to revolutionize the automotive industry in Pakistan. On Saturday, August 17, BYD announced its ambitious plans to open a car production plant in the country in partnership with Mega Motors, a subsidiary of Pakistan's largest private utility, Hub Power Co Ltd (Hubco). The new plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2026, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan's transition towards sustainable mobility.
BYD's entry into the Pakistani market as the first major new electric vehicle (NEV) manufacturer highlights the growing interest in eco-friendly transportation. The company aims to start selling three models, including two SUVs and a sedan, from the fourth quarter of 2024. To further solidify its presence, BYD will open three flagship stores and experience centres in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, allowing customers to engage with the brand and its cutting-edge technology.
