It’s not that Parker Posey has an unmistakable look—though her look is certainly unmistakable. It’s not that she gravitates towards material that is visionary, offbeat, and often unexpected—even though she definitely does; she’s not called “Queen of the Indies” for nothing! No, Parker Posey’s takes a paradoxical approach to embodying her characters, and there is an irony that persists in her perfromances, no matter what kind of character she’s playing. Amazingly, rather than alienating the viewer, her jaunty insistence on “tipping the mask,” so to speak, is totally alluring. She knows that we know that she knows we love it, and it shows! In this video, we postulate that from Party Girl to Personal Velocity and beyond, Posey knows exactly how to draw us in...and keep our interest piqued.
