After staying at The Westin hotel in Zagreb Croatia, I can confirm that you should not trust all five star hotels in the Balkans.

Despite being a five star hotel in the Marriott portfolio, This hotel needs 100% improvement in all aspects. The room itself was decent despite needing renovation. However with the amount I paid it simply did not make it worth my while. And wait till you see the food!

Also be careful when checking in as it can sometimes be or feel like a scam. they will charge you a different price than you agreed to pay on the Bonvoy app. They will also take a hefty deposit for incidentals for a room that looks like you are in a 1990s movie. In addition, I was overcharged during checkout for no reason so make sure you walk out with a hotel bill printed off.

Despite being an EU country, things seem to operate differently in the Balkans than the rest of Europe.
