The Hejaz Railway was a line of narrow gauge railway that joined between 1908 and 1916 the cities of Damascus and Medina, both belonging to the then Ottoman Empire.
The outbreak of the Arab Revolt, the railroad in 1916, for his role in transporting troops, suffered several guerrilla attacks that left badly damaged road, particularly in the region of the Hijaz. Traffic on that stretch, ie south of the current border between Saudi Arabia and Jordan, not reopened until today trains and roads destroyed by the guerrillas of Lawrence of Arabia and other elements of the railway are an attraction tourism in the Saudi kingdom.
