At the beginning of a busy Christmas Eve for passengers worldwide, American Airlines said that a "technical issue" had impacted flights countrywide early Tuesday.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, American asked for all of its flights to be grounded.


"All American Airlines flights are currently experiencing a technical issue," the company said on X.

The message said, "Your safety is our utmost priority, once this is rectified, we'll have you safely on your way to your destination." In response to inquiries from other social media users, the airline said that it was unable to predict the duration of the repair.
