One of the wildest stories in the Bible is the tale of Balaam and his talking donkey (Numbers 22:21-39). Balaam, a prophet, is summoned by King Balak to curse the Israelites. Along the way, God becomes angry with Balaam, and sends an angel to block his path. Balaam doesn't see the angel, but his donkey does and refuses to move forward. Balaam beats the donkey, but then, in a miraculous twist, the donkey speaks! She questions Balaam, asking why he is beating her, and reveals that she's been trying to protect him from the angel. Balaam, shockingly unfazed by his donkey speaking, then sees the angel himself. The angel reprimands him, and Balaam is eventually sent to bless the Israelites instead of cursing them. The story is a reminder of God's power, how He can use anyone or anything, even a donkey, to fulfill His will.
