Some master ways of pollinating water lily, in order to produce its varieties and a new Nympahe :
1. Prepare ‘the father” and “the mother” tree. The “father” tree blooms in the second and the third day, while the “mother” tree blooms in the first day.
2. The flower which is still closing (still a bud) needs to be closed by net, in order to prevent the pollination caused by the wind and insects. We close it with a net until it blooms.
3. After the bud has bloomed, open the net and you can see nectar at the middle. This is called the “mother” tree.
4. Use scissors to cut all stamens because they can change into the “father” tree on the second day. All of the stamens should be REALLY cleared out in order to avoid the personal pollination. Gently clearing out the stamens, do not make the nectar finish. We need the nectar for the pollination later.
5. Next, find the “father” tree which has pollen like a powder. You need to find a father tree which has beautiful colours, always blooms, and stands for the weather, so that it can produce a good quality of its generations.
6. After cutting the stem and the external parts of the “father” tree, cut the stamens until no more, and put them into a cup/glass.
7. Add some water taken from the container into the cup. Do not add the water from other sources.
8. Stir the water so that it can mix with the pollen powder.
9. Pour the water and put the father’s stamens above the mother tree.
10. Press the mixture slightly so that they can be mixed well.
11. Cover (tie) the mixture (pollination) with a net. Wait until 2 weeks.
If the pollination is successful, it has a characteristic of having a little bent (crooked, circular) stem but it is not rotten.
After 2 weeks with no rotten, it means that it has been pregnant. It takes 45 days to explode. The bud of the mother tree needs to be covered (tied) with a net, avoiding the mother bud spreads into the water when it explodes.
