Guillaume Beraud MD, PhD, infectious diseases specialist at the University Hospital of Poitiers in Poitiers, France, presents the update on drug shortages situation in France. Similarly to many countries, the COVID crisis weakened an already fragile system and the number of shortages rises. However, at the occasion of this crisis, a digital tool has been put in place: e-Dispostock on which the stock of essential medicines has to be reported, and a centralized management of the stocks has been implemented. In the near future, it may help getting an exhaustive information on shortages, which would be the first step toward better management.
This lecture was presented during the virtual conference held on 26-th of March 2021, as a part of the project “CA15105 - European Medicines Shortages Research Network - addressing supply problems to patients (Medicines Shortages)”. Management of the project – the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow, Poland (Project Leader – Tomasz Bochenek, Institute of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences JU MC).
