This video is the 7th Part of Most Valuable Rare and Classic Postage Stamps of United States of America. USA postage stamps have had an interesting history. The first adhesive stamps were issued by 'Alexander M. Greig’s City Dispatch Post' on 1st February 1842. It was a private New York City carrier. However, the US Post Office Department decided to buy that private business and so later continued to use these adhesive stamps to prepay postage. U.S. postage rates were standardized in 1845. At that time, New York City Postmaster "Robert H. Morris", and few others, issued distinctive stamps or markings which indicate prepayment of postage. These were later known as "Postmasters’ Provisionals". Later "Congress" authorized United States postage stamp on 3rd March 1847. The first US postage stamp was issued on July 1, 1847. These first stamps were simply cut from non-perforated sheets with the help of scissors. One stamp, initially priced at five cents, featured "Benjamin Franklin". The other, a ten-cent stamp, depicted "George Washington". In 1856, a five-cent stamp honoring "Thomas Jefferson" was introduced. This was followed by a two-cent stamp picturing "Andrew Jackson" in 1863. George Washington has the honor of appearing on more U.S. postage stamps than any other person. The first commemorative stamps were issued in 1893. It honored that year’s World Columbian Exposition in Chicago. In my video I have quickly reviewed selective 104 US stamps. It is important to keep in mind that the values mentioned in this video are only for the specific adjacent stamp. These values were estimated by experts after careful examination of the particular stamp, at different philatelic auctions.
