A musical tribute to the Nativity by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, on the initiative of Anna Capra, president of the Associazione Archeoclub Sicilia ODV of Palermo, of Bernardo Tortorici di Raffadali, president of the Association of Friends of Sicilian Museums, with the support of the Sicilian Regional Assembly and the support of CESVOP of Palermo.
The concert will be alternated with readings taken from Lives of Caravaggio by Stefano Zuffi.
The musical compositions instead, composed for the occasion by Matteo Ramon Arevalos in a duo with the singer - actress Camilla Lopez, were set to music taking the text of the contract for the Nativity signed by the commissioner of the work Fabio De Nutis and by Caravaggio and the text of the Interrogation of Caravaggio in 1603 for the accusations of defamation, where touching reflections on art and his artistic vision emerge.
The concert's peculiarity will be the video preparation of the piano: in some compositions, a parchment paper copy of the contract will be placed on the piano strings, thus modifying the sound of the piano, making it similar to a harpsichord or a lute, thus bringing us closer to an instrumental sound of the time. To conclude, a cardboard copy of the fragmented Nativity will be placed on the piano strings.
The whole thing will be video projected on a screen, so during the concert the audience will see the Nativity fragment on the strings and inside the piano, as a sound omen for a quick recovery of the magnificent original canvas, spes contra spem!
