The innovative range of ergonomic Carbolife hand rims were designed in close cooperation with wheelchair users, physiotherapists and specialist dealer. Their goal is to offer every wheelchair user the handrim tailored to their individual needs. The Carbolife range is moulded to suit the natural profile of the hand and fingers (originally designed with the use of moulding clay!) which allows for a more comfortable grip on the handrims, better transmission of power from the hand to the wheelchair, and reduced fatigue.
The Gekko handrims feature a silicone strap which is fully integrated into the profile and provides outstanding grip for the user.
The silicone strip is surrounded by anodised low-friction surfaces on each side which helps to prevent heat generation during braking.
They come in a standard (larger) size and a small size, and are best suited to wheelchair users with complete hand function and either complete or limited hand strength.
The Curve handrims are ideal for wheelchair users with complete hand function. They allow the wheelchair user to gain controlled, low-effort grip whilst stabilising their wrists. Use of the Curve handrim range (standard/small, and Curve L for large) results in less fatigue of the hand muscles which helps to reduce cramps and relieve pain, creating a more relaxed and lasting riding experience.
The Curve range also has the option of a Tetra grip which are best suited to tetraplegics with triceps function as well as for wheelchair users with complete hand function but little hand strength. The larger surface area of these handrims provides an improved gripping surface for the user, and, as a result, propelling the wheelchair along a flat road and particularly uphill requires less physical effort while being much gentler on the joints. Additionally, handling the wheelchair can feel much more secure. They feature an extremely durable anti-slip coating, making riding and steering your wheelchair much safer. The larger gripping surface also helps to distribute the pressure much better and thus reduce heat generation during braking.
The Quadro hand rims were designed with the biomechanics of tetraplegics with no triceps function in mind. The Quadro provides the wheelchair user with a considerably larger gripping surface than a conventional handrim, and features a durable anti-slip coating for improved grip, efficient propulsion and maximum control during braking and when modifying the direction of travel.
