With fur trading no longer lucrative, famed frontiersman Jim Bridger opened a trading post in present-day Wyoming. Fort Bridger became a popular destination for travelers along the Oregon Trail and those brave enough to try Hasting’s Cutoff; migrants like the ill-fated Donner Party. Bad luck aside, Bridger’s fort – and his Green River ferry – did so well financially that his new neighbor, Brigham Young, decided to take it from him. Also discussed in this episode: Porter Rockwell, Sister Wives, the Whitman Massacre, Joseph Meek, Henry Fraeb, and Louis Vasquez! Yes, I know this is a photo of Porter Rockwell!
