David Deptford, Western European Champion, rider and trainer, of Soverign Quarter Horses rides Western sliding stop, jog and lope as part of our project to catalogue modern equine movement. Anatomy in Action.
David, a level 3 UKCC coach has been a member of the British Reining team on multiple occasions. He is a master showman who has given demonstrations at many prestigious events. Seeing a horse executing the sliding western stop illustrates the movement at the lumbosacral junction and even though most of us are unlikely to perform this move just seeing it gives us a real insight into the anatomical importance of flexibility for hors-es from all disciplines. We feel very privileged that David allowed us to paint his horse and demonstrated the jog, lope and the sliding stop for Anatomy in Action.
