Paul J. Wallin: Okay. It's amazing how many different kinds of family law problems, our family law lawyer has to deal with. The gamut so many different things, child support, child custody, divorce, so many different things. Someone asked me, what is a summary dissolution? And how is that different than a normal divorce?
00:17:44
Neelam Kahlon-Pfister: So, summary dissolution is a simple and quick process, you know, simpler and quicker than a traditional divorce, because there’s few court filings, and you know basically tells the court that you come to a written agreement
you have very few assets, there's very, you know there's maybe there's no children involved, and you just want this to be done sooner than later.
00:18:06
Paul J. Wallin: And how does it speed it up? By doing it that way,
00:18:11
Neelam Kahlon-Pfister: in the sense that you still have to. It still will take the six months to do so but it's just there's, there's a lot less paperwork, there's no, there's few fewer court hearings, fewer things that you are hurdles that you have to jump through in terms of paperwork that you have to comply with procedurally.
00:18:33
Paul J. Wallin: okay so in terms of hiring a lawyer, if you have a house and you have children, is it a good idea to to hire a family law lawyer because of those kinds of things that are at stake?
00:18:48
Neelam Kahlon-Pfister: It is most definitely because the family law attorney, an experienced one, will help you parsed through all the legal system I terms of, what are you entitled to. You know what things are evaluating you on assets, you know, a reasonable visitation plan would say if you and the other party or not, you know, are you back to the contentious issue, you know spousal support, child support. So, yeah, it is a very important when you're thinking of filing for divorce to hire an attorney, especially, especially one that's very experienced in family law.
00:19:25
Paul J. Wallin: I mean if you have like two young children and if you don't get a lawyer, and let's say you have children that are like four and five and child support can go till they're 18, right?
00:19:38
Neelam Kahlon-Pfister: Yes.
00:19:40
Paul J. Wallin: At least. Okay, so if, if you represent yourself and the judge awards
$200 a month for each child. What if you hire a good lawyer, they could’ve got you
$500 a month. Imagine you're losing $300 a month for years and years and years. It could be thousands of dollars that you been wasted by not getting a lawyer to make sure you do it right, basically right?
00:20:02
Neelam Kahlon-Pfister: Yes, that is correct.
