Part 1 of 4 of AmaWaterways Vietnam-Cambodia Mekong River Cruise going from Hanoi to Saigon and taking in ancient ruins, beautiful lakes, big cities and small villages documented by travel filmmaker Clint Denn. This first in this first episode is Hanoi in North Vietnam, a busy city with the amazing Hanoi Opera, of French architecture, the Hotel Metropol, a famous hotel, with fantastic food and service. The escorted tours include the Ho Chi Minh Memorial, the man who founded the communist regime in Vietnam and led the country through the war against the French and Americans. His tomb is designed after Lenin's Tomb in Moscow. Hanoi is fascinating city. Besides seeing the sights and shopping, a water puppet show, developed in the rice fields to entertain children, is on tap for the travelers.
Then a bus ride to Ha Long Bay for a stay on a luxurious junk to see one of the great natural wonders of the world. Music on board ship with good food and then touring islands, made of limestone islands and many with caves, dot the landscape. Fishing abounds with over 200 species in the area. Hundreds of local ships plying the waters for fish and hawking their wares to the tourists are seen everywhere. Boats of every description, including floating wooden houses, abound during a two-day stay before the flight to Siem Reap and Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
