Adding a little vintage flavor to your sounds by emulating analog circuits in NI Massive is quick and easy!

Analog synthesis just sounds more natural to my ears and I'm not alone in this assessment. Bob Moog himself notes that in analog synths, the electricity vibrates in a way that is analogous to the way sound vibrates in an acoustic instrument. I'm not hating on Digital synthesis, I love it and use it daily, but there is something about air and electricity moving through circuits, wires, capacitors etc. that just sounds good. Even though digital synths sound really good, sometimes it's nice to introduce some of that analog flavor to the sound.

To emulate analog circuits in NI Massive, a general understanding of how things work in the analog world is helpful. Basically, not all things are equal and not everything happens the same way every time. In other words, their are usually slight variations in the sound from one second to the next.

You can achieve this subtle affect by loading up the Random curve in an LFO and then applying throughout the synth. I will typically add the LFO's to the oscillators, filters and envelopes.
