Union Minister Smriti Irani slammed the Congress saying the party continues to "demean" the women in the constitutional post. She also demanded an apology. Irani said that the party has “insulted” the newly-elected President. This came after a video of a senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, went viral in which he referred to President Droupadi Murmu as "Rashtrapatni”.
