This species, endemic to Thailand, Crypteletrops venustus was the first one I found inadvertently while burying our dog on a hill at a Buddhist temple in Surat Thani. These are exceptionally beautiful, and small pit vipers called the brown-spotted or beautiful pit viper. They can be found by night or day, and they are not widespread across Thailand, they're found only in the southern provinces from Surat Thani and down south.
This snake was found around 280 meters elevation at night going from the street to the leaf litter. These are typically arboreal but on occasion can be found on the ground and limestone rocks.
The venom of this snake is dangerous, but probably not deadly. Still, caution should be taken!
