The drill/saw systems from FICEP all employ unique steel fabrication techniques and innovative designs. One industry first development to enhance the structural steel fabrication process is “Direct Drive” drilling spindles.
Traditionally drilling spindles consisted of the spindle motor transmitting it’s power through a gearbox to increase the spindles torque. The gearbox consisted of multiple precision ground gears, bearings and seals to contain the required lubrication. FICEP’s innovative “Direct Drive” spindle design totally eliminates the need for a gearbox and its required maintenance.
When transmitting a motors power though a gearbox the actual horsepower that is intimately delivered to the spindle is substantially reduced. With the “Direct Drive” spindle design by FICEP 100% of the motors power is delivered to the spindle.
The elimination of the gearbox permits spindle speeds up to 5,000 RPM without any requirement for any special cooling of the spindle assembly.
