In Thailand for 3 months training to loose as much weight as possible. Medically Retired Army Veteran (Afghanistan and East Timor) who has spent the last 7 years putting myself back together again. 3x C-Spine Surgeries (Artificial C5/6 & 6/7), Shoulder Surgery (Severed Left Bicep Tendon & Partial Tear/Repaired Left Rotator Tendon, and Left Bursitis). I have an appointment with a great Neurosurgeon on the Gold Coast 4OCT2022 to finally get my Lumbar sorted (Last Physical thing really holding me back)... but I need to drop weight to make surgical interventions possible, safe and a quicker rehab time.
Lots of previous mental health issues from my Service. I didn't get out of bed for 4 years (2015-2019) and took all the pills they (DVA/GP/Psych) offered me washed down with booze. 3 years ago I knew something had to change or I was going to tap out from the world. In a crazy last attempt before I would end it, I went to Japan as a Language Student to see if somewhere completely foreign with minimum triggers could get me going again. It was the most difficult thing I have done, but day by day I got moving again. I have managed for the most part to get my PTSD and MDD under control/in remission and I am even taking 1-2 University units a semester now. The hardest thing for me in Japan was my pain levels, particularly in winter, and made meeting my attendance requirements for my VISA extremely stressful in the cold.
28FEB/1MAR22 my Home in Australia was hit by the major floods that took out Lismore. I could not afford to live in Japan any longer without rental income on my property so I left Japan temporarily to get that sorted. Since my insurance (due to the scale of the disaster) was taking so long, I decided to get my Lumbar sorted while waiting so when I return to finish my studies in Japan I don't struggle with as much pain sitting in the classroom for long periods, during the cold in particular.
So here I am in Thailand, smashing out 3 months hard work before I see the surgeon. So just have to push through the pain for the sake of finally getting on with my life.
My school in Japan, Genkijacs, were very supportive and I have 22 weeks credit to use when I get back over there. I am taking University Japanese in the mean time to keep things fresh in my head.
For people out there struggling with Physical and Mental Health issues, please don't give up ❤️. Take one day at a time, one foot in front of the other. You don't have to fix everything today, just chip away at what you can. When you look back later you'll see how far you've come. And don't care if other people don't see/appreciate what you've achieved... live for yourself and you know in your heart the effort you've put in.
