In this video press release, Assembly Democrats Celeste M. Riley (D-Cumberland), Gabriella M. Mosquera (D-Gloucester) and Nelson T. Albano (D-Cumberland) discuss their legislation to create a "New Jersey Task Force on Domestic Violence and Abuse," which would help consolidate and improve statewide efforts to curb domestic violence.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year.
The bill (A-3472) would create a 16-member task force to review current law, practices and procedures in New Jersey in order to create more effective and efficient policies related to domestic violence and abuse issues. Under the bill, the task force would be required to submit its findings to the Legislature no later than 18 months after its creation, with recommendations for legislation and stage ties to create more effective and efficient policies related to domestic violence and abuse issues.
The measure unanimously passed the Assembly in June and is currently awaiting action in the Senate.
