Dahm: Now I'm with Jeff Sutherland, one of the fathers of Scrum, and the co-author of this book, "The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time". Jeff, I would like you to introduce yourself a little bit, please.
Jeff: I'm the founder of Scrum. I started the first Scrum in 1993, and I've been doing nothing but Scrum ever since. We're here doing a Scrum@Scale training for people who want to run many scrum teams altogether.
Dahm: I heard that you went to Thailand in 1967, right?
Jeff: Yes, I flew an RF-4C aircraft out of Udorn air base in northeast Thailand, and did a hundred missions flying over North Vietnam.
Dahm: Thank you for your service.
Jeff: Actually, there's a lot in Scrum that comes out of that Air Force background. It was essential for the creation of Scrum.
Dahm: Could I say that scrum was created in Thailand?
Jeff: Well, it required... I went from there into medical research, and it was the combination of the simulation of biological systems in medical research and the work as a fighter pilot -- the rapid response as a fighter pilot -- the combination of those two is what created scrum.
Dahm: That's outstanding. Today, I am here with Jeff to study Scrum@Scale, the newest scrum guide. Could you tell us a little bit?
Jeff: A Lot of people have many scrum teams today and they're looking for scaling frameworks to help them. What I've been doing over the many years is trying to get scrum at scale to exactly implement scrum at the team level, the same model, only for many teams. It's essential to do that, otherwise, as you get more teams, things start to slow down. So the question is: How do you get the same performance of a team, for many teams? You have to very carefully set it up to do that.
Dahm: You can find the scrum guide in Thai from scrum.org. You can find the Scrum@Scale guide online now. It will be translated into Thai soon. You can find the article, "Agile at Scale"...
Jeff: Yeah, this is a brand new Harvard Business Review article out this month, "Agile at Scale", and again, it's based on Scrum@Scale.
Dahm: Thank you so much, Jeff. I will tell Thai people, and also people from other countries, how amazing and useful Scrum and Scrum@Scale are.
Jeff: Thanks for joining us. It's great to see you.
