The first holiday markets were held in Strasbourg more than 400 years ago, making them among the oldest in Europe and the first in France. "Christkindlsmärik" took place for the first time in 1570.

The Christmas market located in Place Broglie was the biggest Christmas market in the Old Town; although it certainly is not the biggest Christmas market I’ve visited on this entire trip, it was most definitely cozy and lively.  I found that the crafts and food in the Christmas markets are actually some of the better deals when it comes to food and souvenir prices.

I feel that the Christmas markets are the best place to buy gifts and souvenirs, but be aware that each Christmas market has its own deals, so you would just have to visit them all to compare prices because the markets pretty much sell the same food and crafts.
