Massive coral bleaching events are becoming more severe and frequent due to extreme marine heat waves caused by climate change. A united global response from marine scientists, practitioners, and citizen scientists is urgently needed.
This training will provide guidance in conducting three types of field surveys to assess coral bleaching. This information will help groundtruth the world’s first satellite-based bleaching algorithm developed by the Allen Coral Atlas that can detect coral bleaching at ~10m2 resolution. Help us ground-truth and improve the Atlas detection algorithms.
