When the level 6 darknest is for ranged and is in ranged phalanx, it sometimes is better to have less troops, respectively less attack. Here attack is your enemy and hp your friend, because with more attack you engage more infantry which makes you lose more morale. As you can see, with more troops the defeat was larger.
