This is the original RKO Radio Pictures opening titles to the 1951 Disney cartoon No Smoking, scanned from a 16mm Kodachrome print from 1952. Since it’s on Kodachrome stock and from a time when the two labs were competing rivals, it’s understandable that the Technicolor line is blacked out here – but why was it printed on Kodachrome to begin with? Apparently the Technicolor lab was shut down for a few months from late 1951 to early 1952 while they changed their printing process (from blue-track to grey-track), so it seems likely that Kodak was hired to do at least some 16mm Disney prints in the meantime. The closing title was unfortunately replaced on this copy, so I haven’t included it here.
