Did you know you can consolidate your annual fire pump test with the monthly generator dynamic load test?
What!?! How does that work? Well NFPA 25 (2011) 8.3.3.4
requires that you transfer the power of your fire pump to emergency power while a peak load and confirm the pump continues to perform at peak load and then transfer it back andconfirmm the fire pump is reconnected to normal power
When this occurs it fires up your generator. So, I like to coordinate the annual fire pump test with that month’s generator dynamic load test required by NFPA 110 to kill two birds with one stone.
This way you don’t have to run the generator(s) twice that month. It does take some coordination, but it’s a great way to save time and money (diesel fuel is expensive! 😁)
Let me know your thoughts and any other time/cost-saving tactics you use!
