An American’s unfiltered perspective of Taiwan after moving here without thinking
Jenna initially had high expectations for her trip to South Korea during an Asian travel adventure, as Korean dramas and K-pop have made South Korea widely known in the United States. However, she was unexpectedly impressed by her trip to Taiwan. Three months later, Jenna decided to move to Taiwan, gradually building her new life after starting out by crying every day. In Taiwan, the Facebook group for foreigners helped her a lot, whether it was with daily matters or making new friends.
During my conversation with Jenna, I noticed something special: while many people tend to avoid discussing the topic of "race," she openly shared her experiences of the different treatment she felt as a white American woman in Taiwanese society. Additionally, she is passionate about caring for foster dogs, which makes me think that Taiwanese people should be proud of their local dogs! If you have time, you might want to check out the pancake stalls at Jianguo Flower Market on the weekend; perhaps you’ll find your soulmate there. I hope this episode can inspire you, thank you!
