STORYLINE:
A suicide car bomb exploded next to a US military convoy in Mosul, 250 miles north of Baghdad, on Sunday killing three civilians and wounding seven others, according to the US military.
Captain Hertz of the US Army said that a suicide bomber "killed three local civilians and injured seven others."
The blast also damaged a US military vehicle that was seen being towed from the blast scene.
Earlier, Iraqi police said that the blast had killed one woman and wounded 19 other people.
The car bomb was apparently targeting a US convoy when it exploded near Mosul University.
Most of the wounded were female students, an Iraqi police Brigadier said.
