As hundreds of firefighters continue to battle a wind-driven Malibu wildfire that prompted evacuations near Pepperdine University, officials said a "minimal number" of homes have been destroyed. The Franklin Fire started at 10:50 p.m. Monday in Malibu Canyon near South Malibu Canyon and Francisco Ranch roads, Cal Fire said. As of 7:49 a.m., the fire burned at least 2,200 acres, or 3.44 square miles. That is an increase from 1,822 acres reported at 6:34 a.m. There is no known containment around the fire, which is the perimeter crews build around the fire burn area to prevent flames from spreading farther.
