Within Level the Playing Field, we have designed an inter-institutional course at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill designed to instill core concepts of professional development within our students.
The course (Chemistry 396.045) is titled Foundations for Professional Success: Career Development for Underrepresented Students. Each week we dig into a foundational concept and use Fridays as seminar sessions to invite speakers from across the world to give real-world lessons on the topic.
Last semester, UNC Board of Trustees member and founder of the Institute for Responsible Citizenship Bill Keyes spoke with our students about the importance of making connections in everyday life. You never know who you could be talking to and a polite conversation with someone new could open doors you never imagined!
