문대통령 부부 AZ 백신 접종...6월 G7 정상회의 참석
South Korea's first couple have also received their first COVID-19 vaccine doses.
They too got the AstraZeneca vaccine ahead of a scheduled trip to the UK for the G7 Summit.
It's also hoped the move will stave off public concerns regarding the vaccine.
Kim Min-ji reports.
President Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook got their first vaccine doses on Tuesday.
They got the one made by AstraZeneca on the first day that those vaccines are being administered to over-65s.
President Moon is 68... and First Lady Kim is 66.
The first couple filled out a questionnaire in advance and received a preliminary check-up on their health to make sure they were fit for the vaccine.
"It will sting."
"You're good at giving the shot."
"Can you roll up your sleeve slightly? It will sting."
"It's over already?"
"Please stay in the waiting room for 30 minutes."
Their vaccination comes in accordance with the KDCA manual for "essential" foreign travel as Moon has been invited to attend the in-person G7 meeting in the UK in June.
The AstraZeneca vaccine requires two doses within a time frame of eight to twelve weeks... and it takes a few more weeks after that to fully build immunity.
The top office said that first couple's inoculation is also aimed at easing concerns over the safety and efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Nine Blue House officials who will accompany the President also got their first shots.
Those include the national security advisor and the chief of the presidential security service.
