The POTA Babe and Glenn W4YES define head copy (being able to follow a train of thought) and discuss what is necessary for head copy - building words front to back AND instant character recognition (with a higher character speed, at least 30 wpm). Both are skills that are easily attainable provided you use a proven methodology and the person training you has experience with the methodology and can show you data there are successsful outcomes with that method.
