Governments around the world have imposed social distancing measures to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Businesses and organizations such as supermarkets, schools, banks, and hospitals must monitor and control the number of occupants present at their building and their density distribution. They also need to control people's traffic (in and outflow) at the building entrances. This is mostly done manually by a security guard by counting people entering and leaving the building. This project aims to design and build an automated occupancy monitoring system to provide a cost-effective way to enforce social distancing and occupancy policies. The system's key features include providing a real-time person count and distribution at a particular location, visualizing real-time occupancy on a campus or indoor map. Also, the application offers occupancy statistics for the hours per day, and each day per week to enable visitors to be better plan their visits and select a suitable and less crowded time. This application will be beneficial to monitor real-time occupancy of buildings during the COVID-19 pandemic and any other emergency. Additionally, it can be extended for crowd management during the upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
