Summer has come to an end, which means beaches start to close, schools open their doors once again, and the day begin to grow colder. But, the Valley Railroad of Essex, Connecticut holds strong. Now on a shorter operating schedule, the Valley still holds true to their tradition of operating steam powered tourist trains along the Connecticut River. Usually the trips consists of going North from Essex to Hadlyme, and then back to Essex. But on this day, the Valley had hosted the New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association, for their annual train show. With this, the Valley hosted a special train South to milepost zero, which is the wye for Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. On this day, we see 2-8-2 mikado #40 on the point of the trains. 40 was originally built for the Mineretes and Western railroad of California, and was passed down through many owners, and ended up in the hands of the Valley Railroad. Lets follow 40 as she makes the last few trip on the summer, and on The NHRHTA Special!
