Alto Choir Practice: “Esurientes implevit bonis” (BWV243 - 9) from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Magnificat in D major”. Movement no. 9 an Arie for Alto.
Observe Bach's creative use of the words `implevit bonis' which become 'filled' with musical notes, while the words `dimisit inanes' are emptied of notes.... in the very last measure the flutes omit their last note ... the rich are sent away 'empty'.
Bach's “Magnificat” has long been known as one of his finest short choral works and is frequently performed during the Christmas season and on Marian feast days.
Esurientes implevit bonis et divites dimisit inanes.
The hungry he has filled with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty
