Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the AUKUS arrangement is giving Australia “access to the latest technology systems” including hypersonic missiles.
“We’ll get those missiles as soon as is practical to do so but the key point is we’re getting in with the United States and the United Kingdom, two very significant military partners for Australia,” he told Sky News Australia.
Mr Frydenberg said the Indo-Pacific region was unstable and Australia will “need to invest more in defence”, which the government had been doing.
“Ever since we’ve come to government, we’ve increased defence spending, now to two per cent and rising,” he said.
