A woman has donated her womb to her younger sister in the UK’s first womb transplant.
Surgeons said both were “over the moon” after the successful procedure in Oxford, which could allow the younger sibling to start a family.
The 34-year-old married woman received the womb during an operation lasting nine hours and 20 minutes carried out at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.
Her sister, 40, already has two children and was willing to donate her womb.
The recipient, who lives in England, has now stored embryos with the aim of undergoing IVF later this year.
