You can in fact slash the cost of your prime membership by a half by signing up for Amazon Household! Two people with entirely separate amazon accounts can actually share their Prime benefits with one another.
It lets you add two adults, and up to four teens and four children in total! All you’ll need to access all features is to both have a 1-Click billing address and payment method based in the UK.
There’s potentially serious money to be saved here, as let’s say you are your spouse are paying £7.99 per month for prime for a year, that’s £191.76 paid between you. This means you’ll potentially cut this down to only £95.88 between you. And, you’ll get the fab perks of fab next day shipping, same-day shipping, streaming of digital content at Prime Video, Prime Wardrobe, Prime Early Access, Prime-Exclusive items, Prime Live Events, Premium Seating, 20% off nappies.
You can also share digital content like apps, ebooks, games and other media in the family library.
How to Share Your Amazon Prime Benefits
As long as you’re comfortable with sharing your payment methods with another person, it’s actually really easy to set up an Amazon Household Account. That being said, you still won’t be able to see each other’s purchase history or order information, but one big caveat: you’re also not allowed to join another for a full 6 months after!
Here’s how to do it:
1. Firstly, one of you will need to log in to your Amazon account
2. Next, Click on ‘Accounts & List’ at the top on the lower right of the search bar.
3. Click ‘Prime’ to be taken to a new page that shows the benefits you’re entitled to with Prime.
4. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and you should see a section that says 'Share your Prime benefits'. Click on 'Invite someone now'.
5. Enter the name and email address of the person you would like to share your Prime account with, so liam@liamisgreat.com if you wanna share with me, hint hint.
6. Next, you'll have to authorize the person you're sharing your benefits with to use the payment card linked to your Prime account. This lets each of you within the “Household” copy payment details to the other's payment options.
7. The invitee will then receive an email. They’ll have 14 days to accept the invitation and can cancel their existing Prime membership if they already have one. Remember that Prime music however can’t be shared.
8. You'll then see an invitation confirmation and more information about the shareable benefits, that everyone can share in! It really, really is this simple!
Having an Amazon Household account also means you can share credit and debit cards with the other adult on the account. However, if you share with them a credit card that earns cashback, points or miles, they’ll only accrue to the owner of the credit card account, so that’s important to remember, especially if you own the Platinum Mastercards or Classic Mastercards as they give you cashback, points and gift cards from Amazon purchases. However, it does mean that one of you will get the goodies from both of yours’ purchases which is a potential pro!
You also can't share Amazon Prime Music or Amazon Video Channels, which is the service that allows you to add premium channels to Prime Video with a separate monthly rate.
It’s also likely to be a great way to pick up extra savings during the UK’s Prime Day in 2022, with last year’s Prime Day featuring some great deals on household and tech, as well as Amazon Warehouse.
