Richard Shireby G0OJF & Mr Chippie M7CHP perform an 'on the air' test on the Harvard CBM404 (UK) CB radio here in the UK. This type of radios uses the same chassis as the Harvard H403 'Good Buddy', a chassis I have not found to be that reliable on the whole. Having said that, this radio was made around 1982 so is now 35 years old! On the bench, the squelch sensitivity & hysteresis was a bit of a let down & this is proved as poor on this demonstration. On this test, Mr Chippie starts at 6.5 miles away & comes towards me. This test, involves driving 6.5 miles the wrong side of a hill, using our 'standard range test'. Most new 'digital' sets struggle.
