The first Afro-Surinamese dance conference, organized by NAKS Wan Rutu from October 27 to 29, 2023, has the theme "From the edge of the forest to the center of the stage and beyond".

Exploring traditional Afro-Surinamese dance styles and their evolution in modern contexts is central, with workshops, lectures and performances highlighting the profound meaning and development of these dances.

The conference, part of the efforts of the Keti Koti Subcommittee, aims to stimulate not only dance lovers but also scientists and cultural awareness, to promote the preservation of this intangible cultural heritage and the strengthening of the Afro-Surinamese community.
